Race Briefing - Please read this carefully

Have you collected your race kit which contains your singlet, swim cap and bike security sticker. Ensure your team details are correct and match. Your team rider must be numbered for entry into the bike compound - NO NUMBER, NO ENTRY.

Your bike security sticker must be affixed to the front area of your bike (handlebars or stem) and must be visible from the front of the bike. Race number and bike security stickers must match to get in and out of transition area.

Your race number is compulsory! All team members must have this written on an arm or leg by race officials, NO NUMBER - NO RACE!

BIKE RACKING

Must be done between 6:45am-7.30am on SUNDAY 20th September 2009 - NO EXCEPTIONS. Race officials will visually inspect your bike and helmet upon entry to transition on Sunday. Transition area will be open at 6.45am on Sunday morning and MUST be cleared of all competitors by 7.30am. Only essential gear will be allowed in the transition area. Wind trainers are not allowed in the transition area on Sunday morning.

NUMBERING

Will take place from 6.45am-7.30am on Sunday morning. Please make sure your arms and/or legs are ready to be numbered and you now know your category and race number - the earlier and more organised you are, the quicker the process will be. Please don't write your own numbers.

WARNING

Conditions on race day may be hot and humid. Please ensure that you are sufficiently fit and prepared to compete under all race conditions. Also ensure that you maintain correct hydration practices before and during the race. If you have any concerns at all please notify race organisers.

MEDICAL

Dehydration is the most common problem for triathletes. Typically in North Queensland weather is hot and risk of dehydration is high. If you have been ill in the week before the event eg. Diarrhoea, vomiting - you are dehydrated already. Check with the course medical team that you are ok to compete; they are the only ones who can assess your health level accurately.

COURSE

Failure to follow direct designated course (swim/cycle/run and transition) + recovery may result in personal injury or accident, you do so at your own risk and may result in disqualification or time penalty for your team this will be determined by the Race Director.

PARKING

Riverside Tavern will be available and is in easy access to the Transition area and road access is open at all times throughout the TP human capital Corporate Teams Triathlon. However, there will be a designated and marked no parking zone either side of the ENTRY/EXIT point of the transition area for safety purposes on the bike leg.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SWIMMER HAS THEIR SWIM CAP

Penalties/Disqualification

Race officials will be in the transition area and out on the cycle course, the race will be under Triathlon Australia rules.

  • Cycle helmets are to be fastened and torso covered before removing bike from the rack and remain fastened until bike is racked.
  • No riding in transition area.
  • No drafting
  • No cheating.
  • Upper torso must be covered.
  • Crossing double lines is instant disqualification.
  • Competitors must obey all directions and instructions given by race officials.
  • Outside assistance in any leg will results in instant disqualification.
  • Poor sportsmanship or abuse to any race official will result in disqualification.

IMPORTANT

On the return leg of the cycle, there will be a "red zone" from 100 metres leading to the Transition area on each loop. THIS MEANS THAT THERE WILL BE NO DRAFTING, NO OVERTAKING AND NO PASSING for competitor safety. Normal road rules apply.

Swim Cautions

  1. Deep water start only, competitors in starting are to assemble in the water as directed by the Race Director.
  2. You must follow the swim buoys precisely. Any short cuts will mean disqualification.
  3. Single file through transition area to tag your cyclist.

Cycle Cautions

  1. To ensure an even race for all competitors you must rack your bike alternately by the seat/break hoods in your designated area.
  2. Wear only an approved helmet.
  3. NO DRAFTING.
  4. This is a three lap clockwise course; extreme care must be taken at all times.
  5. Please Note: for safety reasons a RED ZONE will be in place along Riverside Boulevard 100 metres prior to the transition area on each loop of the bike leg. NO PASSING permitted in this area.
  6. Take special care on - Entry onto Riverside Boulevard and Exit back into the transition area.
  7. Single file only as you approach the transition area, Extreme caution on crossing the centre line. 7. Drink plenty of water.
  8. Police may be on the course and will book anyone breaking the law. Follow any Police directions at all times.
  9. Upper torso must be covered at all times

Run Cautions

  1. The run exit is situated on the Sales office side of the transition area.
  2. Runners run west onto the cycle path. Run out is on the inside of the westbound lane and run back is on the outside of the eastbound lane. Complete two laps in a clockwise direction then finish. The entire run is on the cycle path.
  3. Use aid station at each pass.
  4. WARNING TO NOT USE AID STATIONS AND / OR CONTINUE RUNNING WHEN DEHYDRATED OR OVER HEATED IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH.

Total course cut off time is 10:30am

All competitors still on the course will not be able to finish through the finish line or receive a finishing time. If you have any concerns see the Race Director before race. No excuse if you have not discussed your concerns.

TEAM COMPETITORS

Team Captain's Kit (Team swimmer if no captain was nominated) will contain your race number to be worn by the runner, swim cap to be worn by swimmer.

Team racks

Swimmers must make their way to the swim start by 7.50am. Only one team member at a time is allowed in the Transition area. All team runners must make their move out of transition area to the Waiting Area. Only the team cyclist will be allowed in the transition area while swim leg is in progress and the runners while the bike leg is in progress. Team competitors must wait in the Waiting Area until instructed by Transition Director to move into transition area. If a team member withdraws during the race please advise the Race Director of the withdrawal.

GEAR

Please note that no responsibility or liability is taken by the Race Organisers for Lost of Stolen property. All lost property will be handed to the Race Director and enquiries should be made to TP human capital after Monday 28th September 2009 on 4772 3800.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

No announcements for finding team members etc will be made by the Race Director. Please make sure you allocate a place and time to meet/find each other.

WITHDRAWAL

If you withdraw before the race start, please advise the Race Director. If you withdraw during the race, please also report to the Race Director and advise them you have withdrawn. This is very important to ensure that all competitors are accounted for.

RACE RESULTS & RECORDING

  1. It is extremely important that you follow the timer's instructions.
  2. Numbering of all competitors will take place on Sunday morning from 6.45am-7.30am near transition area.
